A few months ago, the Flemish government launched an emergency fund, which provided 65 million euros to the cultural sector. With the remaining amount of this emergency fund, you will soon be able to apply for a ‘cultural activities’ grant to organize, carry out or provide infrastructure for new public events.
Because organizing such events today is rarely profitable, you can apply for a lump sum of 2,000 euros or a multiple of 2,000 with a maximum total amount of 20,000 euros. You will have to prove the costs you incur, and the aim of the support is to remunerate artists and their teams fairly and correctly (i.e. according to applicable rates and scales). The most important condition is that the event you set up is open to the public.
Activities can include concerts, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, and socio-cultural activities. All types of activity are eligible for support as long as the activity fits within the framework of presentation, professional development, participation or training.
Timing?
The activity must take place between 1 September 2020 and 31 May 2021 and be in the Dutch-speaking region or the bilingual region of Brussels-Capital.
For whom?
The new support measure is available to legal entities (e.g. non-profit organizations) and sole proprietorships. As part of the activity applying for this support, you must employ at least two artists and/or cultural workers as employees or self-employed persons. You can apply for support for different activities, but the total amount you apply for cannot exceed € 20.000.
All conditions for the new ‘cultural activities’ grant can be found on the website for the Department of Culture, Youth and Media, but you cannot apply for the premium yet. A digital application is being developed now for that purpose, but through the website, you can register your email address and receive a message when the application is launched.
You’ll need to act fast once the application is launched because the premium will be awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
