Dear artist, cultural worker, cultural organisation,
Do you agree that since the cultural sector was closed down again, it’s very silent? That the economic effect of the lockdown is not fairly distributed? Do you also want to show your solidarity with other vulnerable groups? This call is for you… We have an idea, please join!
On Saturday 20th February, we are doing culture!
That Saturday, not by coincidence World Day of Social Justice, we invite you to get out of your closed corner by doing a cultural action or intervention and bring culture back to life. Be creative, show what you’ve got. Post your action on
www.stillstandingforculture.be.
Wherever we are, and everyone with his/her own talents and skills: all over the country we do culture! In the countryside, in the city, in between the traffic, on public transport… Do culture in queues, shopping malls, museums or places of worship. In the ether, on the sidewalk, in shop windows, on walls or façades. On the street or from your balcony.
Wherever society continues to operate despite severe restrictions on freedom, we will do culture! In solidarity with all people and sectors affected by the epidemic and/or by the political reaction to it. As a plea for a covid approach that takes more account of social, psychosocial and economic risks, rights and freedoms. We are Still Standing!
That’s how, on February 20th, we celebrate World Day of Social Justice. To remember that the most vulnerable are suffering most in this crisis. Because this day makes more sense than ever. Offer your artistic skills or cultural activities to the city and to society. That is what we stand for.

Post here your action or artistic intervention!
On February 20th, we won’t be sitting in front of our screens again. We no longer care whether culture is allowed to open before or after the hairdressing salons, driving schools, bungalow parks, shopping centres, zoos… We are no longer waiting for that eternal “cultural spring” that is promised us: we are making it ourselves!
Our French-speaking friends in Belgium already have many ideas. Will Flanders follow?
